I CAN DO IT!

My cousin Jeremiah and his wife, Jess have the funniest little boy, Boston. This kid is crazy! Just like his parents. This kid is determined to do things on his own.
This video is just...so awesome to our family. I find it so inspiring. So many life lessons taught in this funny ten minute video. And trust me, it's worth spending the ten minutes to watch. The were going at this whole process for about forty minutes. What patient and amazing parents. I don't know if I'll allow that for my kids when something like this happens. "no, I'll put your bike in the car, now get in."
But the thing I love is when Boston says, "I can do it" what does Miah say? "I know you can."

And although Boston is doing it, all by himself, Miah and Jess are there the whole time, next to him, guiding him, giving him advice, and ready to help if he asks for it.

How often do we tell Heavenly Father "I CAN DO IT!" and he says, "Yes I know you can." But of course he's there the whole time, waiting, watching, ready to swoop in when we say, "Please, help me." But knowing that we can do it. Enjoy the video. I can't watch it enough.

This is for Russell, because when we watched this movie we rewound it and watched it over and over. This is the funniest part of the whole movie. Hank Azaria. What a funny man.

Midsummer's Night's Dreams costume update

As I have said before I am designing the show of a Midsummer's Night's Dream for Box Elder High School. I'm way excited for all of this. I just wanted to update what I've done so far.

This is Helena's dress, to be worn by Becca Norman. I love the pinks and golds. I love the sleeves. They're my favorite part of the whole dress.

This is Helena's Dress. To be worn by Caroline Liston. This fabric was amazing. I was a little disappointed that the girl cast in this part was so much smaller than myself, because That means I'll never be able to wear this costume. :( Oh well. It's still going to look absolutely amazing. Right? RIGHT!

This is the sleeve cuff of McKenzie Larson's...jacket type dress. I did this bead and cord work on it. The dress isn't quite finished, but I'll take a pic when the whole thing is. It's incredibly AWESOME. 

This took me a long time, but it was worth it! I love the way it turned out.

First midsummer's rehearsals

For the last week i've been in auditions for my show and Melanie's show. It was really interesting being on this side of her job and watching her cast. A side I've never been on with her. And although I didn't always get the part I wanted in high school, and these kids don't always get the parts they want, etc, I learned one thing about this woman who i have come to love and hold very very very dear: She has deep beautiful heart and she cares SO much about her students and giving them what they want, but also need.


I really wanted to have Caroline and Becca's renderings done for today so they could kinda see what I had in mind for their costume, but I only got Caroline's done. And hers doesn't have hair on it yet...oh well. And I haven't painted the boys, because I still want to go down to Provo for their fabric and haven't decided which  color i want them to be. 

Last night I layed out ALL the fabric I had to show Chad my concept and 1- realized i have NO puck fabric, but that's because I was waiting for Mel to cast either a boy or girl. and then I started picturing each kid and stuff in each costume, because I know who is wearing what...and I wanted to cry.

 I got the biggest chills

 and I was soooo excited. I know it sounds stupid,but really it was so exciting for me. Chad was oohing and ahing and grabbing this one and grabbing that one and was SO excited. Jason will look SO good in that vest and Cara will look SO amazing in all that gold and Morgan will just SHINE in all that blue for the water fairy and Emily will be so pretty in those autumn colors and Pyper will look amazing in the Earth tones and I just...was so excited. I finally was able to really really see my vision in my head, because I was able to see people IN this fabric and it wasn't just pretty fabric I had bought tha tI had these cool ideas for. They are actually going to be realized! and i CAN"T WAIT! The fairies are going to look AMAZING. HOLY COW! 

I love amazing even myself. I don't know where my concepts and designs come from, but I don't feel like they come from me most of the time, because when I saw all that fabric together laying across my basement, it felt like all these going that well together was just too good to be true. I am sooo excited!  I'll be posting more pics of my renderings, and as the costumes come together so you can see. And I hope you plan to come see this show. Because it is going to be absolutely MAGICAL EYE CANDY!

A Big Step!

I am directing a play. Did you know that? I'm directing a play that is very dear to my heart, The Curious Savage. I've directed before, twice in high school, and a couple of the times after that in college. But nothing full length or without a grade pending or a teacher helping, although I know Melanie will be there every step of the way that I need her to, she'll also push me to do my best and do as much as I can alone. This is the play Melanie has been preparing me for these last 10 years. My first full length play that I'm directing by myself.
Although, I'm very nervous. I have found that more and more people I thought were auditioning, no longer want to or can. And I'm getting kinda scared. It's a new and big step for me. What if I have some actors who don't want to learn their lines? What if I direct them wrong? What if what if what if? I guess we'll see right? Here goes nothing I guess! Auditions are this week, and after I cast the show, the easy work begins. At least that's what they all tell me.

Bakedagoods!!!!

So I love to cook. Most people don't know this about me. And I love to bake, I'm just not very good at it. (seirously) but I still love to do it. And I love cupcakes. They are such happy little things. And they're fun to eat. Celeste knows this and she got me a cook book for Christmas called the 101 gourmet cupcakes in 10 minutes. This book has some amazing recipes! Well we finally worked out our schedules to see each other and yesterday she gave me my gift. I was way pleased and so I decided to try out one of the recipes.

So I saw this recipe and I decided I HAD to try it:

And here are the supplies I got: I decided to go with the chocolate frosting instead of the whip cream frosting. And oh my word I'm glad I did.

Now the batter was so thick my beaters couldn't even handle it, so I added an extra 1.5 TBS of milk and a half a tablespoon of vegetable oil. It was still thick and heavy, but it was more manageable.

The cupcakes were really heavy, adn kinda sunk. I was wondering if it would have worked better if I'd beaten the egg whites first, so they had a little air in them. But they still tasted sooooo good. I baked them a little too long. So about 16 minutes is fine. And if you try to eat them while they're hot, they tend to dry out so I would let them cool in the cupcake papers which traps some of the moisture.

 But they were SOO GOOD! I definitely say try this recipe!
